Why You Feel Stuck (and the Subtle Ways You’re Opting Out of the Life You Want)

Click below to listen to this post.
Do you remember the day you decided not to have the life you want?
Yeah… me neither.
Because it’s not that dramatic.
Feeling stuck in life doesn’t happen all at once. It happens in much quieter ways than that. It shows up in small, almost invisible moments; ones that feel completely reasonable at the time.
You might even think you’re trying.
You have the ideas.
The goals.
The vision of what you want next.
But when you zoom in on your actual days?
You’re not really moving toward it.
You’re maintaining where you are.
Not because you’re lazy.
Not because you don’t care.
But because of subtle self-sabotage patterns – ways of opting out that don’t look like opting out.
Here’s what that can look like in real life:
- Saying you want to grow your business… but not telling people what you offer
- Wanting more money… but avoiding looking at your numbers
- Craving a different lifestyle… but defaulting to the same routines
- Saying “this matters”… but only working on it when everything else is done
And my personal favorite:
- Waiting until you “feel ready” (a timeline with no known arrival date, by the way)
None of those are personality traits. They’re patterns.
This isn’t about motivation.
It’s about clarity and alignment.
Because when your actions don’t match what you say you want, one of three things is true:
- You don’t actually want it as much as you think you do
- You’re getting something out of staying where you are
- You haven’t made it doable enough to follow through
All are fixable.
But none get solved by thinking about it more.
If you’ve been wondering how to stop procrastinating or why you’re not following through, this is where to look.
Try this:
If someone followed you around this past week only watching what you did, not what you said, what would they say you’re building?
Not what you intend.
Not what you hope.
What your actions actually point to.
That answer?
That’s your current trajectory.
You don’t need a full life overhaul.
You need fewer disconnects.
One clearer decision.
One smaller step.
One moment where your action actually matches your intention.
That’s how you start taking action in your life.
Not someday.
Not when things calm down.
But in the next choice you make today.
Because the life you say you want?
It’s not built in big, dramatic moves.
It’s built in the quiet moments where you either show up for it…or opt out.
Before you move on with your day, take two minutes and answer this:
What is one thing you say you want… that your actions didn’t support this week?
Now choose one small way to show up for it today.
Not perfectly.
Not all day.
Just once.
I wish you space and clarity,

P.S. You don’t have to figure this out on your own. If you want support turning insight into action, I’d love to work with you. KerriRichardson.com/services
