How to Turn Tiny Annoyances into Big Wins

I recently snagged what I thought was a bargain on toilet paper, only to find the rolls were tiny and ran out quickly. Lesson learned: I’m sticking to my 1,000-sheet rolls!
This whole situation reminded me that I wanted to share something with you. Now, you might wonder what toilet paper has to do with you. There’s a point here, I promise.
Having to change the roll so much made me fall in love with my toilet paper holder all over again. It’s super easy to use and guests often end up getting one for themselves after seeing mine. (Don’t fret, you can see what’s so special about it in the video at the end of this post.)
This got me thinking about life’s little annoyances and how much mental and energetic space they take up in our lives. And since finding creative solutions is one of my superpowers, this week I thought I’d share some of my favorite solutions – home edition – with the hope that they’ll inspire you to find ways to make your life easier in even the smallest of ways.
Here are my current favorites:
I swapped out my kitchen cabinet hinges for soft close ones. And by “I,” I mean my wife, Melissa. (No more slamming doors.)

I organized my junk drawer using assorted acrylic boxes. (It’s so easy to grab batteries now.) Check it out:
I installed some Command hooks in the back of my closet to hang hats. (This is so much better than the pile falling on me when I reach for one at the bottom)

I replaced my throw pillow inserts with bigger ones to fill out the covers. (No more empty floppiness.) Before: left; After: right.
These relatively simple changes have made a massive difference in my day-to-day life. My mind is pulled in enough directions as it is, so any way I can eliminate mental or energetic clutter — I’m all for it!
OK, now it’s your turn.
This week, pay attention to the little annoyances in your day. What has been pulling your attention or bugging you? It might be:
- a dripping faucet
- an empty bird feeder
- that throw rug that is needs straightening
- or marketing text messages you’d rather not receive (pro tip: Reply with the word “Stop” and they’ll, well, stop)
Once you have some ideas, choose a small one to rectify. Pick something super easy and then prepared to be amazed at how much lighter and freer you feel.
You can thank me later.
I’d love to know what you discovered. Comment below and brag about your solution!

Wow, that toilet holder! I gotta find me one. And thanks for taking these small things seriously, they SO matter. I vow and declare to rid my life of mini frustrations like these. My house is just on market and even though I don’t really have any hard and fast idea of where to next, I know I’ll be factoring in anything that I see that will bring me mini frustrations, or kicks my ‘ease’ to the back, or has potential to come up nice down the track, and will be about now, what’s it like for me to move to now? Anyway, great life hacks are the best. Thanks!
Love it, Vicki! Buh-bye mini frustrations that take up SO much head space! Yes, be very discerning about what is WORTHY of coming with you to your next chapter. Not every candidate is a fit. Best wishes!
OOH That’s a nifty loo roll holder. I’m not planning on changing ours out as it matches all the other fixings in our bathroom. But when we get to move then it will be on my shopping list. Peter is the one that usually in charge of this task so I will just admire yours. I call these annoyances “incompletes”. A light bulb that needs changing just needs to be done. It took me months to get around to sorting out the curtain pole in the living room. I made it an excuse to completely spring clean the patio door area. It feels so good every day when I go to open the curtains – swoosh! Thanks Kerri.
It’s so incredible what a difference tending to these “incompletes” makes, eh Tricia? Sounds like this loo roll holder is worthy of being a part of your next home!
