Offer What You Want
This week, my wife and I celebrated our 10-year wedding anniversary. Marking the occasion with a fancy dinner at a restaurant didn’t feel like a fit for us. Instead, because we feel so incredibly blessed and fortunate for the amount of love we share, we wanted to spread the joy. So we went on a secret mission. Apparently, we weren’t the only ones with this plan…
We walk downtown and grab a burger at our favorite joint, and after dinner, with markers and paper in hand, we create our messages of love, with a plan to hide them in various places.
As we sneak around, putting our notes on car windshields, in mail slots of local businesses, between pieces of wood on a construction site, and in bushes, we head to the waterfront to tuck away more. I know exactly where I want to put one, and as we approach the sign where we intend to leave it, I notice something already there. Imagine our surprise when we find this:
It seems we’re not the only hope bandits! What a powerful reminder that the universe reflects back to you what you put out there.
So what are you looking for more of in your life? What if, instead of chasing it, you find a way to share what it is you want or need as a way of attracting it? Here’s what I mean:
- Have you been feeling lonely? Consider visiting a resident in a nursing home who has no family.
- Money feel exceptionally tight? Drop a penny, quarter, or dollar into a collection jar.
- Does it seem like you can’t catch a break lately? Let someone go ahead of you in line at the store.
We all know that doing something kind for others give us the greater gift, but that’s easy to forget when we’re feeling down on our luck. Maybe the quickest way to get back on your feet is to share some love, even if you have to dig deep to find it.
I’d love to hear your thoughts about this. Join the conversation in the comments below!
Until next week, keep taking those small steps to Live Out Loud.
