Reframe Your Idea of Clutter to Transform Your Life

I realize my work with clutter can be seen as an unusual career choice, but maybe when you hear how I got here, it will make more sense.
You might think I grew up in a pack-rat’s home or tend to keep many unnecessary items, but nope! Clutter was never a prominent issue in my life, at least not in the traditional sense.
However, if someone had defined clutter the way I do for my clients and members, I would have easily identified the clutter in my life and likely fast-tracked a lot of my emotional and spiritual growth.
The Real Clutter
As you’re likely aware, my work focuses on uncovering and addressing the root causes of challenges to help you build a solid foundation to confidently pursue bigger goals.
In the early days of my practice, explaining this was tricky, so I started referring to clients’ fears, self-doubt, and draining relationships as forms of “clutter,” and it clicked for them. It helped them reframe what seemed like insurmountable hurdles as obstacles to clear from their path with the right tools and approach.
After all, the concept of “clutter” is something everyone can relate to.
This Approach Changes the Game
Think about it — if you categorize things like extra weight, debt, or toxic relationships as clutter, it brings you to an action step faster than leaving it as a seemingly unmanageable frustration. As a result, you are more empowered to address these areas rather than feeling victimized by them.
And once you identify and clear that deeper clutter, the path forward becomes much clearer.
An Unexpected Niche
Naturally, by using the word “clutter,” I began to attract those who fought with overstuffed closets and guest rooms that had become storage spaces.
And at first, I was resistant. No! I’m not a home organizer! (Not that home organizers aren’t worth their weight in gold!) My work is soul-based; it goes way deeper.
But soon I realized that if someone really struggles to let go of physical clutter, the real issue isn’t physical at all. Otherwise, a local organizer would, in fact, suffice.
So, sure, come at me with your storage struggles, but prepare for a wild and eye-opening ride! After all, I have “right-sized” my life significantly (hello, 240-square-foot tiny house!), so I understand the emotional underpinnings of physical clutter.
No Finish Line – Sorry!
Looking at your life in this way comes with good news and bad news. Let’s get the bad out of the way.
Categorizing any obstacle or block in your life as “clutter” means there will never be a time in your life when you’re done. Yup, you’ll always have clutter in some way, shape, or form. Sorry!
The good news? You’re still alive! After all, the only time you’re really done is when you’re, well, done. 💀
And this ever-present clutter means you’ll always have opportunities to deepen your relationship with yourself, get clearer on your soul’s needs, and dream bigger!
I Want to Hear from You!
So… I’m curious to hear what you think of all this. By reframing your blocks, sticky points, or even procrastination as clutter, does it make you feel any differently about them? Do you have any ideas of what might be going on underneath that clutter?
